Backyard Homeschooling

“Never be within doors when you can rightly be without.” - Charlotte Mason

What Does Backyard Homeschooling Mean?

At The Hope Academy, we take an evidence-based approach to early childhood. Similar to the forest schools found in European countries, we blend our Charlotte Mason and Montessori education philosophies, the result is an outdoor, play-based learning model. Studies have shown that play- especially outdoor play- during the formative years of childhood is an integral part of child development. Each child receives their own education plan, crafted with curriculum, instruction schedules, and goals based on their individual needs.

Note: Grades are approximated based on age but do not reflect each student’s abilities or social development. At The Hope Academy, students receive one-on-one instruction but aren’t separated by age. Fostering a Love of Learning

Our goal is to create life-long learners who are curious about God’s world around them. Some days this looks like a unit study about pollinators, and other days it is free play peppered structured lessons the students are invited to participate in.

Teaching to the Whole Child

We value your child’s social, spiritual, and intellectual growth in equal measure. This is why we help them build important foundational habits such as listening attentively, independently accomplishing tasks, and building meaningful connections with peers, which all culminate into students who are confident and intentional about their studies.

Balanced Approach

We are passionate about honoring each child’s unique pace of growth and never rush students beyond what their developing brains and bodies can comfortably handle.

“Movement activates the neural wiring throughout the body, making the whole body the instrument of learning, and that movement and sensory experiences are the fertile soil for continual brain development and growth for a lifetime. These experiences cause the brain to constantly transform in unimaginably plastic ways.”
